Logical Sequences Quiz
Pattern recognition is a core component of fluid intelligence and IQ tests. This quiz presents number sequences and asks you to identify the next term.
Types of sequences
- Arithmetic: add or subtract a constant (e.g. 2, 5, 8, 11, ...); constant difference
- Geometric: multiply by a constant (e.g. 3, 6, 12, 24, ...); constant ratio
- Fibonacci-type: each term is the sum of the two preceding ones (e.g. 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, ...)
- Squares / cubes: perfect squares (1, 4, 9, 16, ...) or cubes (1, 8, 27, ...)
- Mixed / alternating: pattern applies to every other term, or combines two rules
Tips for solving sequences
- Calculate differences between consecutive terms, if they are constant, it is arithmetic
- Calculate ratios between consecutive terms, if constant, it is geometric
- Look for differences of differences, second differences identify quadratic sequences
- Check if terms relate to squares, cubes, primes, or factorials
Why train with sequences?
Sequence puzzles train abstract reasoning and fluid intelligence, the ability to solve new problems without relying on prior knowledge. These types of questions appear in psychometric tests, job aptitude assessments, and standardized exams worldwide.
