About Seam Allowance Converter
Seam allowance (SA) is the fabric between the stitching line and the cut edge. European patterns typically use 1.5 cm; US patterns often use ⅝ inch (1.6 cm); Japanese patterns may use 1 cm. If you change the seam allowance, you must adjust the cut size: each seam adds two SA widths to the finished size. Standard SA for garments: 1–1.5 cm. Quilting: ¼ inch (6 mm).
