Card Hand Probability

Get the exact, combinatorics-based probability of landing each Texas Hold'em style poker hand ranking (pair, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush) from a standard 52-card deck.

Pick the stage of a Texas Hold'em hand to see how many cards are known, then read the exact probability of each final poker hand ranking, computed from the full combinatorics of a standard 52-card deck.

How these probabilities are calculated

Every figure in the table comes from counting, exactly, how many 5-card hands of each ranking exist out of the 2,598,960 possible 5-card hands that can be dealt from a standard 52-card deck (the combination C(52,5)). A pair, for example, is counted by choosing 1 of the 13 ranks for the pair, 2 of its 4 suits, then 3 of the remaining 12 ranks for the other cards in any of the 4 suits: 13 x 6 x 220 x 64, which comes to 1,098,240 hands, roughly 42.3 percent of all possible hands. Every other ranking in the table is built the same way, from three of a kind and straights through to the rare straight flush, which allows only 10 possible top cards in each of the 4 suits, 40 hands in total.

Card games and UK gambling regulation

Poker has a long history at British card tables and in card rooms across the country, and playing it for money online or in a licensed venue is regulated as gambling under the Gambling Act 2005, overseen by the Gambling Commission. Any UK-facing operator offering real-money poker must hold a Commission licence, run age verification, and offer self-exclusion tools such as GAMSTOP. The minimum legal age for regulated gambling in Great Britain is 18, with no exceptions for card games played for stakes.

Why the stage of the hand matters less than it feels like

In Texas Hold'em, a player's final hand is always the best 5 cards out of the 2 hole cards plus the 5 community cards. The table above shows the underlying odds of each ranking across any random 5-card hand, the same reference used to judge how rare a made hand is once all 7 cards are known at the river. Earlier in the hand, pre-flop or at the flop, those odds describe the target a player is drawing toward rather than a hand already held, since several community cards remain hidden.

What this tool does not cover

It does not estimate live equity against actual opponents, since that depends on the specific hole cards and community cards on the table, the number of players still in the hand, and betting patterns, all of which need a full hand-versus-hand simulator rather than a fixed probability table.
