Welche englischen Laute für deutsche Sprecher schwierig sind
Deutsch kennt weder /θ/ (wie in "think") noch /ð/ (wie in "this"), diese Laute kommen in keinem deutschen Wort vor, weshalb viele deutsche Sprecher sie durch /s/, /z/ oder /f/ ersetzen. Eine zweite Falle ist der Unterschied zwischen /w/ und /v/: im Deutschen wird der Buchstabe w wie /v/ ausgesprochen (Wasser), das Englische unterscheidet aber /w/ (wet, west) klar von /v/ (vet, vest). Drittens führt die deutsche Auslautverhärtung dazu, dass stimmhafte Endkonsonanten wie in "bed" oder "dog" am Wortende unbewusst stimmlos werden ("bet" statt "bed"), obwohl das Englische diese Stimmhaftigkeit am Wortende beibehält.
Lautpaare, die häufig verwechselt werden

Grenzen dieses Werkzeugs
Diese Tabelle bildet ausschließlich die britische Standardaussprache (Received Pronunciation) ab, nicht amerikanisches, schottisches oder Cockney-Englisch. Auch Wörterbücher stimmen nicht immer überein: Oxford und Merriam-Webster transkribieren manche Vokale unterschiedlich. Das Werkzeug zeigt keine Wortbetonung an und deckt keine Phänomene der verbundenen Aussprache wie Verschleifungen zwischen Wörtern ab. Wie man die Lautschrift liest
Die Symbole stehen zwischen Schrägstrichen, etwa /kæt/ für "cat". Das Zeichen "ː" nach einem Vokal zeigt an, dass er lang gesprochen wird: /iː/ in "see" dauert deutlich länger als /ɪ/ in "sit". Das Symbol /ə/, Schwa genannt, ist der kurze neutrale Vokal, der in den meisten unbetonten Silben des Englischen vorkommt, etwa in der zweiten Silbe von "about".
